Self-Assessment #2 1. What was the final outcome in your first run through? Was it an outcome you wanted? Why/Why not? The outcome of the first run through had been that I would not fire Joe Bailey for being absent from the workplace for three consecutive Mondays. Therefore, I would be taking my final decision in the correct direction. This is because it is not fair to fire an employee for being absent for one day consecutively in three weeks. This is because there can be some personal problem for which this employee might become absent in this way. Therefore, there has to be empathy shown by me towards this employee. The outcome of the first run through had been my decision being observed to be correct in this situation. The explanation given to Bailey by me had been an outcome wanted by me. This is because firing an employee can never be a befitting resolution unless the employee has been warned repetitively for being absent. If the employee has not been warned repetitively for being absent, it is important for the manager to conduct a one-on-session to converse face-to-face with the employee. The feedback obtained from the employee can provide the manager with the actual reason for the absence. After receiving feedback from the employee, the manager can find out the resolution to resolve the situation of absenteeism. The designing of the resolution is important to ensure that there can be proper implementation with convenience for the employee as well as for the manager to guide the employee. Not firing Bailey had been important to ensure that the other employees would never be in fear of losing their jobs for being absent consecutively on a single day in three consecutive weeks. However, the explanation to Bailey about the importance of keeping personal life away from professional life to not affect both had been effective. This is because the message to all the employees will be conveyed by Bailey to not disturb the regularity in the workplace for personal reasons.
